Formally known as the ‘Mini Aussie’
MAS first started out as Miniature Australian Shepherds aka ‘Mini Aussies’, bred by crossing smaller Australian Shepherds together, and potentially other similar smaller breeds as well (although this is often disputed, a lot of Mini American’s can trace their history back to Travis Puppy, believed to be one of the first Mini Aussies, ‘of rough Australian Shepherd type’).

Breed Overview:
Mini Americans should be similar in appearance and temperament to their Australian Shepherd forebears, a compact herding dog with moderate bone and a medium length coat. They are highly versatile and energetic little dogs, with a willingness to please their humans, making them superb companions for active families. As they’re incredibly intelligent, Minis thrive with a job to do. Here in the UK you will see them competing in agility, hoopers, heelwork to music, obedience, and everything in between. Some people still use them for their original purpose of herding as well.

Colours of the Mini American Shepherd
Mini American Shepherds come in 4 base colours/patterns, Blue Merle, Red Merle, Black, and Red. All of these can be with or with out tan and/or white markings. Tri is the most commonly seen which is both tan points and white, bi colours are becoming more common and are typically with white markings, however they can be tan instead but it’s not seen often (bi just means 2 colours). And solid/self colours are very rare, with no white or tan markings. Dilute colours such as Lilac and Blue, as well as ee Red can pop up occasionally; however they’re not to standard and shouldn’t be bred for.
